Will -

Mike Zuckerman encouraged me to check out your site, in particular your piece on the Brazil convergence. I work in San Francisco at the International Forum on Globalization, an environmental think-tank that works a lot with indigenous populations confronted with climate change in their native communities. We work with Brazilian and Amazonian peoples, largely to empower them through the United Nations Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous People and now, through REDD (Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation in Developing Countries) and are preparing for some serious debates in Copenhagen in December. I will be headed to Brazil this spring for more work.

Just wanted to let let you know I've read a few pieces and I am a fan of your work - I'll be following you. As for athletics, I'm sure you are familiar with Zuckerman's Greenlaces initiative? As a college athlete myself that has spent extensive time working in the developing world, I echo your recognition that athletics, and particularly sports stars, certainly can dictate our interpretation of an issue - from women's health to climate change. Thanks Will -

Quality perspective. It makes sense that Brazil, the only country with the world on their flag, is taking a conscious global leadership position.

In business, JohnsonDiversey, (www.johnsondiversey.com) a global manufacturer of cleaning products who sell them in 175 countries worldwide, has undertaken a game changing stance by increasing their carbon emission reduction commitments from 8% to 25% by 2013 as part of their Membership of the WWF Climate Savers. It's time to increase the number of Climate Savers from 21 to 2100 at the very least. Industry must create the call to corporate action to evoke long lasting sustainable change and not just wait for governments to solve the problems. As Obama said, "Change doesn't come from Washington, it comes to Washington." And, as Churchill said, "The Power is in the purse."

I want to see industry drive government and vice versa toward a more prosperous future that will create abundant food, economy and security for all.

A really good way to promote and implement energy efficient policies would be to combine national policies with local networking groups. For example if a grant is available for in stalling solar panels then the availability of the grant should be pushed and promoted through local networking groups like County Counsels, farming organizations and women's networks. Combining the two methods of promoting green energy which helped to lower our carbon footprint.

John F. Kennedy once said “When you have seven percent unemployed, you have ninety-three percent working. “ It is that type of optimism that we need to help us to move onto a path of growth and hope ! These days there is so much to keep us down and frightened about the future not just on TV but on the Internet and everywhere.

So many people are focused on the negative and constantly playing the armchair quarterback in a negative way. The pundits in the media have an endless supply of bad news and speculative forecasts that if listened to and dwelled upon could cause people to wonder “why get out of bed tomorrow what’s the point”?

Let’s focus on the good news because the glass is really “half full”:

•	Clean technology took over in the amount of venture funding received in 2008.
•	The amount invested in CleanTech by venture companies grew from 6 billion in 07’ to 8 billion in 08’ and while that is predicted to decline slightly in 09’ it is still well above 0’7 figures.
•	The total invested in Clean Technology grew last year from $75.8 billion to over $115 billion.
•	The US took over as the largest producer of Wind Energy in the World.
•	Smart grid investment is set to improve our use of electric power with new investment in new smart grid technology 08’ of over 3 billion.
•	The US stimulus plan has 70 billion in incentives to help grow CleanTechnology , which in turn should help create Wind Jobs, Solar Jobs, Hydro Job, Biofuel Jobs etc.
•	Of that 70 million in stimulus 17 million is devoted to help move solar and wind power from remote locations to the consumers.
•	The news in the stock markets in the US has been strong with a gain of 20% in recent weeks.

Being at the forefront of the leading technology that has the ability to shape the future of the World in many aspects from economically to environmentally, let’s take the lead on having a positive attitude! So I am inviting anyone that has good news to post it as frequently as possible.

Comment on Oceans will become oxygen depleted if fossil-fuel use remains unchecked by russ

Tragically emission reduction will be of little avail to save the oceans. We've already loaded and sent airborn a montrous carbon bomb. 1650 gigatonnes of CO2 loaded this bomb over more than a century of fossil fuel emissions. Already 550 gigatonnes of the deadly payload has exploded in the oceans where 80% of all CO2 ends up. The impact resulted in the catastrophic loss of ocean plants, the plankton blooms that we've observed in the last few decades thanks to satellite platforms that give us a view of the global oceans. The lost plankton blooms were 30 years ago capturing and converting into ocean plant life billions of tonnes of CO2 each year. Today without those blooms those billions of tonnes of CO2 turns into acid death instead of ocean life.

Only if we replenish vital mineral micro-nutrients our fossil CO2 has denied the oceans via reductions of iron laden dust no longer reaching the oceans to nurture those blooms do we have any chance at all of restoring the ocean exosystem. Only our determined replenishment and restoration of the ocean plankton blooms will enable the oceans to heal and to again produce the oxygen they and we need and provide restored ocean pastures upon which all marine life depends, from the tiny krill to the great whales, fish, sea birds, sea lions, everything even us.

Even if we were to stop the emission of any more fossil CO2 it would not save the oceans from the deadly carbon bomb we have unleashed. Only the oceans, with our help, can save themselves. Replenish and restore the oceans.

I wanted to introduce BuyGreen.com and our Green Standards. With the increased interest in all things green, how do consumers know if the products they are buying are really eco-friendly?

We have developed industry unique and proprietary Green Standards for every product we carry.

See our site - banner at the top - for an overview of the Standards.

What we are trying to accomplish:
- Making it easy for consumers and businesses to find a broad range of green products
- Put the rating and the product in one spot for easy reference – see the rating emblem on every product picture
- Creating a broad view for a wide range of products using a lifecycle approach
- Applying a standardized and transparent strategy for our customers
- At the bottom of every product page you will see a link that provides a full two page detailed report on the rating for that product.

We have attempted to create a comprehensive analysis in a simplified way all found in one convenient place. We like to say there is no Black and White when it comes to Green.

I would like to have the opportunity to talk to you more about our Standards and company.
